The company is soon launching its new device named Oppo R9S Plus. So, let’s check whether this smartphone is bang for the buck or not.

General Information

The device is expected for the release in India on January 10th, 2017. It will operate on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) andis believed that the device will receive Android 7.0 (Nougat) update. It is a dual sim device with a hybrid slot which means either two nanosimcards can be inserted or a nanosim and a micro SD card can be inserted.

This device supports 2G, 3G and 4G network with all Indian bands. It has an extra layer of security with afingerprint sensor. The device can be charged fast with the quick charge facility provided. This feature is a boon for travelers, and many of the camera frenzies love it.


The dimensions of this device are 163.6(H)x80.8(W)x7.3(T)mm. It means the device has a 6-inch humongous display with full HD resolution. The device weighs 185 grams, which is a bit bulkier for the people who love talking for a long time.

The front casing of this device is metal finished, and similarly, the back case is also made from the metal. This device is available in three colour variants: Black, Gold and Rose Gold.


The giant 6-inch display supports full HD resolution. Huge display with full HD resolution is a boon for gamers and cinema lovers. The pixel density is 367 ppi, which provides sharper and clearer pictures. IPS LCD type display is protected by Gorilla Glass v5 and scratch resistant glass.

The display is expected to be 10 pointsmulti-touch with capacitive touch feature. Screen to body ratio of this device is 74.9%.



At the heart of this device is Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor which is an octa-core processor. Quad cores of this processor are clocked at 1.95GHz with Cortex A72 chipset;other quad cores are clocked at 1.44GHz with CortexA53 chipset. This processor is made from a64-bit architecture which is ultrafast and provides asmooth experience.

The graphics are improved with Adreno 510 GPU inbuilt with Snapdragon 653 processor. The device is backed by 6GB of RAM which means fast, smooth, and reliable multi-tasking. Internal memory on this device is 64GB and external microSD card is supported up to 128GB. It is expected that the device supports USB-OTG.


The device has two cameras primary (rear) and secondary (rear). The primary camera is 16MP autofocus with EXMOR-RS CMOS sensor for fast and accurate image capturing. The aperture on this device is 1.7f. There is a dual LED flash on the rear side. The primary camera captures 4k images with resolution 4616 x 3464 pixels.

In the settings panel, there is an option for exposure compensation and ISO control. One can select whether to store images on the internal memory or the external memory card. There are two shooting modes for rear cam namely continuous shooting and high dynamic range (HDR).

The camera features include Face detection, touch to focus, digital zoom and auto flash. Video on the rear camera can be recorded in quad HD resolution at 30FPS. The front camera on this device is also 16MP with 2.0F aperture and flash is not available for it. Front camera captures flawless selfies with crispier colours.

Network and Connectivity

There are two sims available on this device. Both the sim slots house nanosims and the slot is hybrid. Either two nanosims can be usedtogether, or one nanosim and one microSD card can be used. This device supports VoLTE which is anacronym for Voice over LTE.

Recently, some network providers have launched LTE network in India and voice calls be done using data services. For the users of such network, this device will prove definitely useful. Slot 2 for sim card can operate only on 2G and 3G networks. This device supports Wi-Fi reliable under standards 802.11 a/c/b/g/n clocked at 5GHz.

It can work as a hotspot and networking sharing can be done using USB tethering and Bluetooth tethering. Bluetooth v4.1 is used in this device which means faster transfer rates on Bluetooth sharing. The mobile phone comes along with A-GPS navigation technology.


The device can play mp4, m4a, and MIDI files. There is 3.5mm headphone jack to provide the user with  a bombastic hearing experience. This device does support fingerprint sensor and comes along with Light sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope.


Oppo R9S Plus price in India is presumed by market experts to beat 34.5k. This device is surely a bang for the buck and is suitable for cinema and photography lovers.
